Swelling-PsA, Lymphedema or CHF

I have developed constant lower extremity swelling from my knee down to my toes, right worse than left. Is this from my PsA? All cardiac tests are negative for congestive heart failure. How many of you suffer from swelling that resembles lymphedema in your legs/feet?

  1. Hi @LeeAnn205. While swelling in the legs is not uncommon in PsA, it can still be significant of other serious health problems such as infection or cancer. Has your doctor ruled out other health conditions that might be contributing beyond possible cardiac issues? Sometimes, swelling is caused by joint damage from PsA. Here is an article from one of our advocates about her own experience with swelling in her ankles, but especially the left ankle: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/living/ankle-swelling-leg-pain. I hope this helps and that you get some relief soon. Thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Hi Lori, I dealt with terrible swelling from my knees down for several years. I found out that I had an allergy to N-SAIDS. Advil, Aleve etc. Instead of being an anti inflammatory it causes me to swell. Fluid retention and more. When I discontinued them my swelling went completely away.

      1. That is very interesting @Toxyco. I never thought that something that could be an anti-inflammatory instead could cause someone to swell. My doctor put me on a fluid pill so I will not retain fluids. In my case it helped but I know each of us are different in ways and alike in other ways. I am sure glad you have the answer to what was causing it. Vickie W., Team Member
