I don't catch the flu, even around family members who are unwell

Is anyone else relatively immune to the flu, even prior to being treated for PsA? My last 2 flu episodes were in 2003, as a direct result of the flu vaccine (which I haven't had since). And in 2005, when I contracted viral pneumonia. I haven't had the flu since then. I have always assumed it is due to my over-active autoimmune system, but I really don't know.
My medication history is brief. I started taking daily fexofenadine in 2008 (in conjunction with a brief course of sodium cromoglicate), and started taking weekly methotrexate with daily vitamin supplements in 2022.

  1. Hello , thanks for reaching out. Typically with autoimmune disease like PsA, people are more likely to get sick or develop infections, not less likely. This is because the immune system that usually fights off those infections is busy attacking healthy cells instead. That being said, it certainly doesn't mean that there aren't other people who have had a similar experience as yours, and hopefully they can connect with you here. Have you ever gotten your doctor's thoughts on this?

Also, I was able to find another member from a number of years ago who asked a similar question. I'll post a link to it here as you might be interested in the conversation, https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/forums/any-benefit-to-having-an-overactive-immune-system.

In any case, sounds like you are quite lucky to be able to stay relatively healthy even around sick family members! Wishing you a gentle day. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
