How long do you have to wait to see your doctor?

I am wondering how long most of you have to wait to see your doctor once you check in for your appointment? At my regular doctor it's usually no more than say a 10-15 minute wait at the most. At my Rheumatologist it's an hour or longer. Is this normal?

  1. Oh my, , that does sound like a long time to wait for your appointment to start. I'm assuming you mean that your appointment is scheduled for a certain time and it's at least an hour after that scheduled time that you finally see the rheumatologist? I know that doctors can get behind (they want to give each patient the time and attention they deserve), but I hope that some of our community members here can share if they have similar experiences with the wait time in the rheumatologist office. Wishing you a gentle day! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. Yes. I arrive usually 10-15 minutes before my appointment in case there is any paperwork that needs to be done. Then by the time they call me to a room and then more waiting it can be anywhere from an hour to 1.5 hours before I see the doctor. I really like my doctor but I do not like having to wait that long. It's already a drive to get there and by the time I am done it's taken 4 hours or longer out of my day for one appointment. I am not sure how to address it since I like the doctor.

    2. , four hours start to finish is a long part of the day for one appointment, I agree. But, as you point out, if you really like your doctor it's a hard to decide to make a change. Would you consider asking the office is this is typical for the doctor? Also, I don't know if it's feasible for you, but I do find that if I can get an appointment first thing in the day the doctor isn't quite as behind as if it's later in the day. Someone else once recommended to me trying for the first appointment right after the doctor's lunch break too, but I haven't ever tried it so I don't know from personal experience if that keeps the appointment from running behind or not. Just a thought. Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
