diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis

Hi I got diagnosed about 6 months ago had 2 steroid injections that didnt work and a oral steroid strong dose that didnt help and now ive been on methotrexate and sulfasalazine for 24 weeks and my hands are worse than they have ever been with joint pain.
Has anyone been through similar and had the next steps or taken anything that has seemed to help?
Thanks in advance.

  1. Hi , fist of all, I'm so sorry to hear that you're still in so much pain. Unfortunately, as every person is different and reacts differently to medication, it can take some trial and error to find the treatment that works best for each individual. I hope some of our community members who have had similar experiences can share with you here as I know we have many people here who have have gone through several different medications and treatment types until finding one that brings relief and eases symptoms. The good news is that there are a lot of different treatment options, so just because your current treatment isn't making a difference doesn't mean something else won't help. I'm sharing a link here to more information on treatment, https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/treatment.

Have you talked with your doctor about their recommendations for next steps of treatments? Oftentimes doctors have ideas of treatments to move to when one isn't helping as well. Also, I know you've been diagnosed for six months, but I wanted to share this article one of our health leaders wrote with some information for the newly diagnosed that you might appreciate, https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/living/dear-friend-newly-diagnosed.

  2. Hi it went well I think yesterday, im staying on the methotrexate and the sulfasalazine tablets but as long as my bloods come back ok I'll be starting on a biologic called Adalimumab i think as well as a 6-8 week course of oral steroids. Obviously depending on my blood results.
Thank you for reaching out and thinking of me truly appreciate it.
