Cellulitis is that connected to psoriasis and/or psoriasis arthritis?

  1. Hi , thanks for reaching out. Cellulitis is a bacteria skin infection, separate from psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis, which is a chronic inflammatory condition. That being said, Cellulitis usually occurs from the bacteria getting into the skin from a break in the skin, and so it would make sense that those with psoriasis, especially if their skin is broken, are at risk of developing this. However, I want to qualify that I am not a doctor, and am only making my own connection, this is not something that I have been able to find specific information on. I did, however, find this study on patients with psoriasis and risk of infection, https://academic.oup.com/bjd/article/184/1/78/6599788, but it isn't specific to cellulitis. Are you currently experiencing cellulitis in addition to psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis? Have you had a chance to speak with your doctor about any concerns you have about this? Wishing you a gentle day. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

  2. And many medications for PsA and PS are still immune suppressants, thereby increasing risk for infections like this.

    1. Yes, , thank you for bringing this up and pointing this out. Unfortunately, immune suppressants can make a person more susceptible to infections as well. are you currently on a treatment for your PsA? -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
