A new normal I never saw coming

Last year, Sep 2020, I tested positive for COVID. I only lost taste and smell and didn't show any other symptoms. I did the standard 14-day quarantine and was good.

Intial symptoms of psoriatic arthritis

The week after recovery I noticed some inflammation in my Achilles on both feet and started having knee pain that came out of nowhere. I could no longer get on my knees or bend as well as before, I had no idea what the issue was.

I went to the doctor a few months later, got x-rays. They dismissed me with some pain meds and off I went. Fast forward to almost over a year of dealing with this pain and daily pain, walking with a cane being my new normal... I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis.

A psoriatic arthritis diagnosis will not define me

I am glad I found this site though. It is nice to know I am not alone in this battle. but nonetheless... I stay fearless. This will not define me.

 <inline-mention username="Jill.Brodie" user-id="3290804"/> Hi Jill! thanks for reaching out. It really was frustrating to not have answers but felt some relief once we had the diagnosis. I do have a rheumatologist now and my main doctor is helping me. I am currently waiting for a biologics medicine that hopefully helps. I really am thankful I found this community! It is nice to know other people share my struggles and give me hope. Thank you!

 Hi <inline-mention username="fearlesswarrior" user-id="4255700"/>. I hope the biologics help. You might experience some sticker shock when you see the prices, but most drug companies have programs that cover all or part of the cost, depending on your needs. We have heard from several people over the past year and a half who believe Covid triggered their PsA. Autoimmune diseases often lie dormant until the body experiences extreme stress. Covid might have been that stressor for you. We are glad you found this community as well. We have lots of great resources and supportive people here. Hi <inline-mention username="Lori.Foster" user-id="3297576"/>. Thank you! Me too I am trying to stay positive that they will help. I was shocked at the price, but the company does have a support program that I was enrolled it. So I am thankful for that. This has taken it's toll on me physically and mentally so I was thankful it wasn't going to hit me financially. I started therapy and my therapist is very helpful in terms of working on my mindset to deal with this pain. Again, thankful for the community and I will definitely reach out privately if I ever need. Have a wonderful week!
