Chest tightness and pain

I get flares of tightness and pain around my torso and breathing is painful. Has anyone else had that issue? It's disturbing and I had one ER trip over it. It was terrifying! They're of different serverities and length of time. Days and even weeks. Ugh

  1. Oh dear, , how scary to experience such tightness and pain in your chest! Good for you for heading to the ER - chest pain is nothing to mess around with. What did the doctors at the ER say or determine? While we aren't medical professionals, I did want to share this information about costochondritis which is an inflammation of the cartilage in your chest, https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/answers/chest-pain-costochondritis-tietze-syndrome. I wonder if it's possible this is what's causing your pain? Of course, only a doctor can tell you for sure, and with any type of chest pain it's always important to reach out to your doctor or even head to the ER as you have previously. In the meantime, hopefully some of our community members can share any similar experiences they've had as well. Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

  2. Yes. They believed that it was that in fact. It took a few days to get back to normal. I'm going to call my reumatogist if this shot that I'm on isn't working. I'm having alot of inflammation throughout my body

  3. Yep PsA attacked my sternum, it was like omg I’m having a heart attack! Was checked out and no heart attack. The pain was so severe I would literally hug a pillow rolling around on the floor. Also felt like I was being stabbed lower left side maybe closer to my spine. Then a year later it all went away never been back from 35 yrs ago since it happened. Side note, did a health screening for a new job. One test I assume was a lung capacity test, I believe I failed it. He kept telling me to blow harder.
Never followed up to really understand what happened.
My biggest problem with the medical community is weird things happen, and they will tell you depression will cause your imagination to run wild. That will light me and it’s on!

  4. Yes. I agree. When there's not a easy diagnosis or fix.... it's blamed as anxiety!!! I thought i was having a heart attack also!

    1. unfortunately, medical gaslighting does happen, and it seems that, when it comes to someone already being diagnosed with a mental health condition like anxiety or depression, that is often the first "cause" that is blamed, sometimes even without any further testing. You might appreciate this article on the topic, https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/clinical/gaslighting-dismissed. I hope you have a supportive medical team that investigates and takes your symptoms seriously! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
