Why Do We Have To Wait Months For A Doctors Appoitment?

Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems like it is taking months to get an appointment. This seems to be more if you live in smaller towns.

I remember scheduling a PsA appointment and it was 8 months out. Do we have a shortage of doctors these days? The one thing I have noticed is that the doctors seem to be getting younger. I guess doctors are just retiring.

I'm just thinking out loud, but do you think that doctors just aren't interested in rheumatology or dermatology? This is just a thought. What do you think is going on? I would love to hear from you.

  1. How long have you had to wait to get an appointment to see a doctor?

    1. Unfortunately good rheumatologist can be hard to find and when you live in a smaller community it's very important to decide how far you are willing to travel to find a good rheumatologist. I have to travel 30 to 45 miles one way to see my rheumatologist and I have been very lucky I started seeing him when his practice was starting to grow. Also do not be afraid to look up your prospected physician and see what the reviews show. I was lucky it took me 2 months to get my first apt and I see my rheumatologist every 3 months now.
I know when I used to work for a physician I used to call to make appointments for my patients and sometimes I could get them in earlier.

      1. , now Florida is an interesting suggestion. My husband is lobbying for Florida. I fear the humidity. I grow horns and a tail when the weather is humid LOL The state I'm in now gets really humid. The corn loves it. Me, not so much.

      2. I still have good and bad days like everyone else. I've decided they need to find a medication that is part Enbrel and part Tremfya. One helps the tendonitis the other one helps the joint stiffness.

    2. I wondered this same thing until this past weekend. I was having a conversation with someone who has psoriatic disease and also is in medical school. I asked if she would be graduating as a Rheum or a Derm. She told me she would graduate as a doctor but she will have to apply to be either a Rheum or a Derm and that the majority of those who apply get turned down. That is absolutely insane to me. So yes appointments are taking longer because there is not near enough Rheums or Derms. Vickie W., Team Member

      1. Hello , Oh trust me - I'm good. They did say if they get an opening they would call me. The shoulder still hurts, unfortunately, but there is so much going on that I don't think about it anymore!! Sometimes, we just don't have the time to think about pain. I did get very sick yesterday, thought I had to go to the hospital. My son decided he was going to google my symptoms. He diagnosed me with dehydration and stress!! So I drank 2 bottles of water and went to sleep. I am feeling better today. Are you doing okay? Diane (Team Member)

      2. , that's true. If we sat and thought about our pain, not much would get done. You sort of get used to its "hum". Or some days, racket.
I'm sorry to hear about what happened yesterday. Scary stuff.
Dehydration can cause havoc so I'm glad you had your son's help! Family support makes a big difference.
