What are trigger foods for psoriatic arthritis?

Has anyone identified any foods that definitely trigger pain in their joints? I've heard that dairy, gluten, alcohol, processed/fried foods, sugar, and nightshade vegetables are troublesome for many. Do these bother you too, and have you been able to pin down other foods? (are there any foods that make you feel better?!)

  1. I have been off gluten for over three months, no difference in pain to be honest, I miss my pasta

    1. That's disappointing, jamesthemod. Have you noticed any other changes in your health since you've been off gluten? -Eileen, Psoriatic-Arthritis.com Team

  2. Hello Eileen B,
Cheers for response,no haven't felt any changes to be honest , joint pain just the same, had a massive energy slump when I first stopped bread and pasta ,etc, but levelled out.
Maybe three months is not enough.
Have you been gluten free, Eileen

    1. No, I've never been gluten free, , but some of my family members have. I know how difficult it is to shop/cook/eat gluten-free! Did you test positive for celiac disease (blood test and intestinal biopsy) or are you working with a doctor to test for non-celiac gluten sensitivity?

It can be a very long process to identify any food triggers. For example, our very own Cynthia Covert at first believed being gluten-free "made enough of a difference that I make an effort to avoid gluten as much as possible" but as she continued to journal her food intake/ingredients and pain levels, almost a year later, she found the diet that works for her — and it included gluten! Have you tried more than one dietary strategy to unmask triggers? -Eileen, Psoriatic-Arthritis.com Team

  3. Hi Eileen ,

Thank you for the response I like the points you made regarding gluten sensitivity and being tested, it is definitely something I will keep in mind.
I switched from cows milk to goats milk, I prefer that now to be honest, roughly same calcium, mineral, and protein content and tastes very nice too, happy days.

    Cheers James😀

    1. Hi Eileen,

I am in the UK goats milk is quite popular here, you should try it if you see it anywhere.

    2. Hi VickiN,

Look at sthelensfarm.co.uk, and delameredairy.co.uk both British companies it lets you see what products they do.
The yoghurt is excellent too. Delicious 😀

  4. , does goat's milk taste much different than cow's milk? I'm with Eileen, I see goat cheese everywhere but I don't think I've ever tried the milk!

    1. It doesn't taste much different , it take a little time to get used to but I prefer it now to be honest, I hope you can find some!
      James
