Do you think TV commercials are glorifying psoriatic arthritis? We have joint pain, eye pain, fatigue, nail changes, stomach problems, stiffness, swelling, and much more. Why don't they talk about cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndromes like diabetes, obesity, inflammatory bowel disease, depression, and anxiety that comes along with this? It even affects the heart.
It's crazy how they got us playing in bands, partying all night, rock climbing, diving off cliffs, jumping rope, and dancing all night. Are we really doing these things? I don’t think so. Trust me, I know we are all different and our medications affect us in so many ways.
I have been on biologics for over 20 years, and I still can't beat drums. They are not really showing how it truly is. Don’t get me wrong. I do think that mediation can help, but there are times we need more.
We can’t stop eating sugar and start speedrunning. I started having symptoms of PsA at the age of twenty-five. Got a diagnosis at the age of fifty. Do you know why? This disease is complicated. Taking a shot is not going to have you feeling like you can “drop it like it’s hot” all night.
Please don’t get me wrong. I take biologics and they have helped me a lot. I wish they would put more time into why the ones of us with real PsA are in pain every day. Taking a shot doesn’t help us alone? The pain is so bad in my hands that I had to invest in a voice-activated computer, but according to the TV commercial, I can take a shot and beat drums all day. I used to run track in high school. I can’t run down the hall.
How do the real sufferers of psoriatic arthritis feel about these commercials? No wonder no one believes us. They are looking at these glorified commercials all day, believing them, and looking at us cross-eyed.
