Managing a physically intensive vacation

Diagnosed in 2016 with PSA. I have bad dactylitis in my right toes as well as chronic swelling and pain in tendons and ligaments around both knees currently making it difficult to walk long distances. Because of mobility difficulties, I’m also not in amazing shape for a lot of walking. BUT I have a bucket list “trip of a lifetime” I’ve been longing to take for years. Wondering if anyone here has done Machu Picchu and if there are any recommendations for easing the physical burden but still seeing everything—Sacred Valley, Cusco, Lake Titicaca, Inca Empire, Maras Moray, etc. I want to see everything without being a burden to my spouse or travel partner but don’t want to “pay for weeks” afterwards because I’ve grossly overdone it. I have a tremendously positive attitude which helps but won’t magically get me from point A to point B if my body fails me.

  1. Oh wow, , Machu Picchu sounds like an amazing "trip of a lifetime"! (I would LOVE to make it there.) It makes sense that you want to be able to be there and enjoy everything, ease the physical burden, and not pay for it for weeks after, especially for such a unique vacation. I really hope that you can hear from other community members about traveling to Machu Picchu (or something similar) to get their tips and tricks for making it a happy and pain-free (or pain-free as possible) trip. In the meantime, we do have several articles about traveling with PsA, although they are general tips, but I'm linking the search results for "travel" here, https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/search?s=travel, in case there's something you think would be useful. I love your positive attitude, and really wish that it would be able to magically get you from point A to B! Thanks for reaching out and please keep us posted! Wishing you a gentle day. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
