Inflammation at base of skull

Hi everyone,
I am curious if anyone else deals with reoccurring inflammation around the base of the skull. I have psoriasis in my scalp as well as knees, elbows, ankles, eyelids and can break out in other locations if I am not being diligent with lifestyle and diet. But since I was a child I get this inflammation at the base of my head, soft spot around the bone on the left side and it has been reoccurring since I was about 18 years old. I am now wondering if this has to do with the psoriatic arthritis.

Figuring things out as I go. Aren't we all!

  1. Hi @kristjanna. Wow that is a great question. Feel free to go and ask it on our Facebook page where I am sure you will get responses from our wonderful community. Have you talked to your doctor about this and if so what has he/she said? Vickie W., Team Member

    1. Hi ! I think I get something that sounds kind of similar - if I overdo it or I'm a bit run down I will get a tender, slightly swollen area at the base of my skull, to the right of the neck bones. If I remember correctly, I think my GP said this was a swollen lymph node. I never really thought about whether it could be related to psoriatic arthritis, but some people have mentioned that their glands swell when they're flaring... I'll have to ask my rheumatologist about this next time I see him! Have you had a chance to ask your doctor about what you're experiencing? - Catherine, Community Moderator

        1. YES.
Before I was diagnosed I'd had 5 spine surgeries, three of which were very complicated.
After another 10 years or so I began having the undeniable symptoms of Ps and PSA.
During a flare my pain travels from one area to another, usually overlapping. It seems to go; "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and a ton more in between.
Scalp, ears, base of skull (like yours), headache in the middle of my brain, my face, gums, lips, shoulders, elbows, wrists, my finger tips and nails, tattoos, breast, genitals, knees, ankles and my both of my feet entirely.
But yes. I get the base of skull pressure pain as you described.
I am on Tremfya and it has helped me tremendously.
          Good luck!

          1. So you feel Tremfya has helped you?
