How to cope with high humidity

I have had PsA for 43 years now and I am finding it really difficult to cope with the high humidity I have lived in the German Rheinland for 40 years and I never know the humidity to be so high its 60 indoors at the moment and 95 outside. It seems like every joint in my body is stiff I have Cervical and thoracic stenosis and this is causing me a lot of pain is it normal for high humidity to cause this amount of distress to PsA sufferers. I have never known a May as wet as this year and it seems that June could be the same. I had problems this winter because it was so wet and was looking forward to May my Uveitis is also worse just seems to be a lot of pressure in my eyes we had two good days in the second week of May 26 degrees and i felt 100% better and since then it's been unbearable.

  1. Hello, , I'm so glad you reached out. I think I actually replied to another of your comments about humidity, asking where you're from, etc. And I see you're in the German Rheinland! While it sounds like a beautiful area, I am so sorry to hear that it has been more wet and humid this year.

As I mentioned in my previous reply to you, I know that so many people here find the weather and humidity impacts their PsA symptoms. You are not alone! I hope some of our community members who have similar experience with humidity can share with you here. In the meantime, I am linking a couple of articles from our health leaders. In this first one she write about her different experiences in California heat vs Florida (Florida is VERY humid during summer months), https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/living/climate-changes-pain-locations And in this article another advocate wrote about how heat and humidity impact her PsA, https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/living/warm-weather-trigger.

Are you working with a doctor? I'm just wondering that if the humidity has been higher, and making your pain less manageable, if it would be possible for you to reach out to your doctor about possible changes in your treatment plan to accommodate the increase in pain and symptoms.

I do hope that you can get some helpful feedback here, and please don't hesitate to reach out anytime. Wishing you a gentle (and cool) evening! Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. Hi sounds like you have a lot going on. High humidity is a problem for me as well. I know barometer change can affect my body so pretty sure humidity can as well. PsA is a balancing act at best. The uveitis you talked about I definitely have experience with that. The PsA in my body puts pressure on the inside of my eyes making them very dry and irritated. It feels like sand or grit caught in my eyes and just rubbing them constantly. I have to put drops in them daily. Are you on any kind of treatment? Is the stenosis making it hard to get the proper treatment? Vickie W., Team Member
