How Many Had/Have Next To Nothing With Regards To Skin Involvement?

This is being asked by a Community Member. They state that they have tiny patches (less than 5) on my body/limbs, a bit on the sides of my feet....does your rheumatology team pay less attention to you without the skin issues? I feel I'm not taken seriously regarding disease level due to this...even though I have spinal involvement and multiple ensethopathy....complicated by osteoarthritis in my hips and a decade of fibromyalgia. Can you help answer this question for this community member? Vickie W., Team Member

  1. Yes I have felt the same. I only have a small patch on my scalp, and aways feel pushed to the side by doctors.

    1. I only have spots on my elbows, knees, and ankles, sometimes I have a flare on my scalp but because it was so minimal I couldn’t even get a dr to send me to a rheumatologist for a very long time. I wish I had a way to tell how to make sure you are heard by your dr. But it has also been a challenge for me too

      1. Hi, I could've written this almost exactly. I'm sorry you are going through this too. I was misdiagnosed, ignored and gas lit for many years. Finally correctly diagnosed at age 43. It's hard to not be bitter.

        1. That's wild from a Rheumatologist. You can have PsA and have little to no Psoriasis. I only get very small patches on my face and scalp, sometimes legs. I have severe PsA with my SI joints, degenerative disk disease/facet arthritis at L4L5, pain in my fingers, toes, ankle, and knee, and sometimes ribs, fatigue, etc. This did cause other family physicians, urgent care doctors, and orthopedist to delay my diagnosis BUT once I was screened for autoimmune markers and referred to a Rheumatologist I haven't had this problem at all, he just asks in passing if I have any patches of concern and is more concerned with how I feel. I have definitely learned to be assertive and unwavering about how I feel to make sure I am getting exceptional care, so if you're already doing that and still feel uncomfortable, I'd seek out a new Rheumatologist, personally.
