Has anyone had any luck with pain relief?

My husband has been suffering from psoriatic arthritis for 7 years. He is 32 and just had to have a hip replacement caused by necrosis, (on prednisone for too long).

Struggling to find relief

He has tried Symphony and Remicade along with Methotrexate. He has zero relief and lives each day in pain! He also lost a lot of weight with fever and chills. I am seeking out anyone that may have something that has worked for them to help !! Thanks for reading.

  1. Hi , thanks for your question and for being an advocate for your husband. While I hope community members will chime in with their personal experiences, I wanted to share a couple articles with you about chronic pain. I hope this can help you and your husband. Please keep us posted on how he is doing.

    1. Hi @ Tasha. PsA is a strange disease. It presents differently in everyone and the medications affect everyone differently. So what helps one person will not necessarily help another. It can take a ton of patience and lots of trial and error over months or years to find the right treatment plan. Sometimes, medications that helped for years suddenly become less effective. Has he talked to his doctor about trying something new? Best wishes! - Lori (Team Member)

      1. I have been on a few different meds...Methotrexate alone..then Humira...then I had a bad infection and spent 5 days in the hospital on Vancomycin..was switched to Cosentyx and then Otezla neither helped was taken off Methotrexate and a trial of Humira and Arava...didn't help just yesterday put back on Methotrexate with the Humira but lower dose of Methotrexate so far I haven't had a day without pain...I do go to the gym 3 days a week and like your husband have a hip replacement and also a knee replacement so it's really hard and was just diagnosed with a partial tendon tear in my elbow so l can't do any workouts with that arm...I try and walk as much as possible I have a HP placard but in good weather I park further away just to walk a little more...I have also found massage to be helpful and intermittent physical therapy for specific areas that are bad at different times... I totally empathize with your husband..hopefully he will find something to help...Hang in there.. I just take it one day at a time and also staying socially active has helped...

        1. Steroids

          1. most of us would agree that Steroids can provide some relief. Problem is with Steroids they are not meant to be taken long term. Vickie W., Team Member
