Has anyone found a medication or home remedy that helps with inflammation?

I was diagnosed w/ psoriasis @ 10. I have had psoriatic arthritis for close to 20 years (I am 56). I have been on about every oral medication or injection out there. I currently take an oral Rx called Otezla. It helps my hands from splitting open, but nothing for the inflammation in my joints. Has anyone found a medication or home remedy that helps with inflammation? I appreciate any feedback.

  1. I take 1950 mg of Turmeric pills 2x a day & it has helped greatly with my inflammation. I buy it on Amazon

    1. Hi Polly,

Like Cindie, I have also found turmeric supplements helpful for inflammation in the past. And ginger tea! Be sure to check with your doctor before starting any new supplements - some of them can interact with medications.

We have some information on turmeric within this article, alongside some other common home remedies: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/treatment/home-remedy/

Let us know if you try any of these out! 😀

      1. Medical grade CBD 3-4 times daily has helped me more than anything. And certain strains of cannabis for severe pain, sleep. Hopefully it is legal where you live. I am unable to metabolize tumeric as are one in 10 people with mthfr gene mutation

        1. , I have heard a few people say that turmeric causes them to have an upset stomach. I actually read about the MTHFR gene mutation recently - I just started methotrexate and with all the Googling I've been doing I kept coming across people who were reacting to the folic acid that they were prescribed to take alongside the mtx. Do you have to adjust your diet if you have this mutation? - Catherine, Community Moderator

        2. I can only speak from my personal experience with my dietician. Supplements with the methylated form of B vitamins was recommended. No particular foods were recommended except eliminating those that I tested sensitive to. My test results revealed 2 mutatations which is associated with the following: decreased enzyme activity associated with folate and homocysteine metabolism.
Increased homocysteine levels. Increased risk of cardiovascular disease or thrombosis. Potential methotrexate intolerance and patients may require dosage adjustments or discontinuation. This info was taken directly from my lab report!

      2. There are definitely foods that help me, I eat so many different foods that are suppose to help with inflammation its hard for me to pin point which one does the best , but my go to natural anti inflammatory is a smoothie of my own creation, take 1 peeled and chopped beet, 1/2 cup chopped celery, 4 frozen strawberries , a heaping teaspoon of ground cinnamon and add water to equal 16 ounces, blend thoroughly and enjoy. To be honest its not the best tasting beverage I have ever had but it seems to help with my knee pain and gives me a bit of an energy boost. I also have 1 tablespoon of apple cider vingear with about 8 ounces of water before I brush my teeth at night. These along with my celebrex and acetaminophen and staying away from my trigger foods, mainly processed sugar, all seem to help, they dont cure me or take all my pain away but it helps me stay as active as I can. Hope this helps
