Any effective homeopathic treatment for pain and inflammation?

I’m now having tendon and ligament pain in my elbows and arms. I’m on Enbrel and take ibuprofen for the pain but I’m concerned about kidney issues. Has anyone had any success with homeopathic or more natural treatments for pain and inflammation?

  1. If, by homeopathic, you mean "all natural" remedies, then you are SOL. If you're taking Enbrel, then your doctor should be doing labs every 6-12 months to keep an eye on kidney and liver functions. The ibuprofen is probably more a peril to your kidney function than the Enbrel, not to mention the cardiovascular risks. If you drink, stop. If you use tobacco, or other nicotine products, stop. If you eat a lot of red meat, a good idea to stop that, too. A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and healthy low fat dairy will go a long ways toward a homeopathic treatment. For inflammatory pain, I use Advil Dual Action, a combination of low dose ibuprofen and aceteminophin. It's not ideal, but it works okay. After many long years of dealing with pain, I just live with it to a certain degree.

    1. Hi , I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some tendon and ligament pain. You're worries and concerns are valid and understandable. Managing a chronic autoimmune disease can be challenging, and finding a treatment that brings relief (with minimal to no side effects) can be quite a process, made more complicated by the fact that everyone is different. Have you been able to address some of your concerns (and new pain) with your doctor? If you're having a new pain, it could be that your current treatment is no longer effective. Of course, only your doctor can determine this.

You mention homeopathic or more natural treatments, which some people do choose, either in addition to their other treatment, or instead of. I'm sharing an article with some information on alternative and complementary therapies, https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/treatment/complementary-alternative-therapy, as well as this, https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/managing-symptoms-naturally, which has links to multiple articles about managing symptoms more naturally.

I do hope that some of our community members who treat some of their symptoms with alternative therapies can chime in here as well and share with you. Please don't hesitate to reach out anytime! Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

      1. Hi , the tendon/ligament pain is awful, isn't it? So sorry you're dealing with this at the moment. I think checking in with your doctor about the Enbrel is a good idea, if you haven't done so already. I did personally seem to have some luck with turmeric supplements back when I was untreated (I'm on methotrexate now) - the supplements seemed to help with my Achilles tendinitis and plantar fasciitis. My elbows weren't affected at that time. The supplements also seemed to help get a guttate psoriasis flare under control. Of course, I can't be certain that it was the supplements that helped, but I wasn't trying anything else at the time. I notice turmeric is mentioned in one of the articles that Christine shared with you. We another couple of articles on turmeric, if you're interested: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/living/benefits-tumeric and https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/living/turmeric-help-inflammation . If you're thinking of trying turmeric (or anything, really), it's important to check that it's suitable for you - some medications and conditions are contraindicated when it comes to turmeric. Really hoping that you can find something that will help. Please keep us posted if you can. Warmly, -Catherine, Community Moderator
