Feeling frustration with psoriatic arthritis

Watching a loved one suffer from PsA or another disease really does suck. Being a source of strength and calm can--frankly--get exhausting, and sometimes the only thing that will make you feel better is to rage out. I mean really hit something so hard it shatters into a million pieces.

Hold on a minute! Before you start to freak out and think my inner violent streak has taken hold or that I’m encouraging destructive behavior. Let me explain.

Letting anger build

Frustration and angst need an outlet to escape. Some people do this by yelling at their loved ones. This solves nothing and makes things way worse for literally everyone. Some people are blessed in being able to zen out and bring a level of calm to get through anything.

Most of us don’t fall into either of these categories, which means we hold it all in. This repression leads to a world of other problems like illness. We can’t help those we care about if we’re ill ourselves.

Finding a way to release frustration

Enter the rage room. Rage rooms are popping up in cities all over the globe as places where people can come, blow off some steam and full-on destroy things. These entertainment destinations offer a safe setting to pick up a sledgehammer or other weapon of choice and just go to town breaking and beating everything in sight.

We’re talking TVs, plates, furniture, kids’ toys that are impossible to put together and a whole lot more. It’s all in the name of simply getting frustrations out.

Caregivers need to blow off steam, too

I had the chance to speak with Kea Tull, owner of the Philly Rage Room, a while back and she shared a ton of great insight on why places like hers have become a sensation and why it’s a great release for caregivers. She talked about how many of her customers came from the healthcare world or taking care of a sick relative.

This place is a perfect respite to break stuff and be ready to face it all again. She shared that many of her repeat customers are seemingly mild-mannered in their daily life. However, once you have the all-clear that inner Hulk comes out in full force.

Release some of your frustrations with psoriatic arthritis

I highly recommend you do some research to find a rage room near you. You can book far in advance and many of them offer private sessions which means socially distancing is as easy as can be.

It’s also a great spot to bring your loved one with PsA if they’re up for some physical fun but wanting to rage out about their disease, work, or any other frustration life throws their way. Get your rage on and sure enough, you’ll be able to channel your Zen side better too!
