Does anyone have trouble bending their wrists?

I know it sounds like a strange question. I have pain radiating down both arms and into my joints. My arms are so weak. I have tingling in my fingers and poor dexterity. I have PsA and AS.
I was wondering if anyone else has problems bending their wrists or anything similar.
Thanks!

  1. Hi . When you experience any new symptom, you should contact your doctor. Some people with PsA do experience wrist pain and tingling/numbness in their fingers, but you want to be sure you rule out other causes rather than automatically including it under the PsA umbrella. One possibility is enthesitis, which is swelling where the tendons meet the bone. This can cause pain up and down an entire limb. One of our advocates wrote a very informative article about it that might interest you: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/living/enthesitis/. It is also not uncommon for people with PsA to experience Raynaud's Phenomenon, a circulation problem that can cause numbness and tingling in the extremities, like the fingers. Here is an article from our editorial team about Raynaud's: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/clinical/raynauds-phenomenon/. I hope you find some answers and some relief soon. 1. Hello , thanks for asking your question. While I hope other members of our community will chime in with their personal experiences, I am sending you over an article from one of our advocates. She has similar wrists pain, and pain in her toes and fingers. I am hoping this article will help you.

      1. My husband had to go off his meds years ago to be on an antibiotic. His hands swelled and he lost mobility in both his wrists. I am proactive as far as getting to the doctor at even the hint of being sick, but that time we both got whatever it was. We also let his primary and specialist know and a couple of times since we've managed to work the meds together better. If he bumps or jars his hands it is very painful for him.

        1. Hi . Have his doctors offered anything at all for the pain in your husband's wrists -- medication, surgery? I am glad glad he is working with his doctors on better medication strategies. My brother does very well on Enbrel, pretty much no pain at all, but when he went off his meds for just a few months, he suffered permanent damage in one hand. It's a bit frightening how quickly that can happen. Sending lots of hugs your way! – Lori, Psoriatic-Arthritis.com, Team Member

      2. I deal with the wrist bending problem. I just started on humira on June 1st, and it has made major improvements to me. My hands and wrists were so bad I could barely get dressed in the morning. I had some tingly feelings in my fingers but not very much. I lost most movement in both wrists, they both barely bend back at all and its not much better bending them forward. Sadly my doctor thinks theres too much damage done already. He told me humira doesnt fully kick in for 3 months so I might see some improvement by then but I honestly dont think so. The swelling is pretty much gone now so that wasn't part of the issue like in my fingers and hands. Unfortunately I think surgery might be my only option soon. Its frustrating. You dont realize how much you use your wrists until you physically cant. I dont know if its common to lose wrist movement but I definitely know what youre going through.

        1. I started with enthesitis which I thought was initially tendinitis. Slowly both wrists became swollen and sore. I had to use a brace on each wrist because of the intense pain while waiting to see a rheumatologist. The pain continued. I found the fish oil I was taking for inflammation only made the swelling worse. Eventually, my wrists had limited movement. The damage has been done. I’ve tried humara which didn’t help and some success with Embrel. I’m on cosyntex now.

        2. Wow so sorry to hear about your wrist @dawnwitkopcontino. Fish oil is a supplement that has been highly praised as something that helps. Scary to think it made the swelling worse. Have you been able to regain any of the lost movement? Vickie W., Team Member
