tingling in hands

Hello,
I haven't been officially diagnosed but suspect psoriatic arthritis. I have an appointment with a Rheumatologist in April. I've had psoriasis for 7 years and have a severe case. I've had a painful elbow that hurts to extend, is swollen, hot to the touch and red. Also, I've had aches in my hands and a lot of aching in my lower back on one side. Additionally, my psoriasis is worse. Also, I have been experiencing numbness and tingling in both hands for a couple of months. I am wondering if this is a common symptom of psoriatic arthritis and is others have experienced this.

  1. Hi , welcome to the community! Sorry to read about everything you've been coping with lately. It's good to hear that you have a rheumatology appointment coming up in April. I have PsA in my hands and elbows (and a few other places) so I can relate to those struggles. Are you on any treatments for your psoriasis at the moment?

Regarding the numbness and tingling in the hands, we do have community members and advocates who have struggled with this - here's an article where Holland shares her experiences with this: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/living/numbness-tingling It's worth reading through the comments at the end of that article too. I hope others will chime in here with their personal experiences. Hopefully the rheumatologist will be able to investigate this for you, alongside your other symptoms. If it would be helpful, we have a great article on what to expect at the rheumatology office: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/living/what-to-expect-rheumatologists-office - there's a few useful tips on preparing for your appointment.

We're all wishing you the very best for your upcoming appointment. Please let us know how it goes (if you feel comfortable doing so), and remember that you're welcome to reach out here anytime you have questions or need support. Warm wishes, -Catherine, Community Moderator

    1. Thanks for your response. I am already on Humira, which helps my psoriasis. I have missed some doses in the last few months due to infection. I will keep you posted about the appointment,

      1. Hi , lovely to hear from you again. You're very welcome! It's good to hear that the Humira helps your psoriasis, although I am sad to read that your psoriasis has been worse recently. Sorry to hear about the infection too. I was unwell in January and had to skip a couple of doses of methotrexate. I definitely felt better getting back on it! I really hope that the rheumatologist will have some suggestions for you. Please do keep us updated. Thinking of you! Warmly, -Catherine, Community Moderator

    2. I had very similar issues before I was diagnosed and I had neck surgery, my advice is to make sure whether or not its psa before neck surgery the treatment for spa is much better than the surgery.

      1. Hello , So sorry you are going through so much. But we are a community that understands. My hands are my worst. I used a voice-activated computer because I can't type right now. I have pain in other parts of my body, but it's the hands that bring me to my knees. I was on MTX which was helping, but I kept getting UTIs. Please let us know how your appointment goes in April. We would love to hear from you. Diane (Team Member)
