, Hi Cathy, I've been getting the synvisc shots in my right knee for 3 yrs now and just started the left 6 months ago. Synvisc is a liquid that is injected into the knee and over the course of several weeks ,thickens to provide a measure of cushion, I get these shots every 6 months and my doctor also gives me steriod injections at the same time. My right knee is bone on bone so these injections do help me with my knee pain, combined with the donjoy rigid brace I wear it allows me to be somewhat active.Insurance has to approve the injections each time I receive them, and the insurance requires my knees be xrayed once a year to make sure its not time for replacement( I'm a little fuzy on the details of that) . I was hoping to compare notes if anyone here has been getting these as well, I'm concerned about the long term effects of putting this stuff in my body, Doc says she has patients that have been getting the injections for years but the last several injections I have received the Doc has been required to tell me about adverse effects people have been having from the injections. I have never had any adverse effects from the injections, like with all the treatments and medications I have tried, the injections are not a cure all , but they do help, and I will take all the help I can get.
