PSA

I have recently beem told by my dermatologist that PSA isn't related to the eyes, then my GP told me that PSA doesn't affect the spine or neck. Only the fingers, toes&hips. Help. I know that there are different types of Psoraisis & PSA,but they only seem to be familiar with the more familiar ones such as: plaque, guttate & pustular. The PSA others seem to be unknown.
I feel like I just need to go to a rheumatologist, but will I get the same b.s. there unless they specialize orbhave a personal interest in PSA. Suffering & worsening in NC. TmM

  1. Goodness, I am sure that is quite overwhelming and a little disheartening. I would certainly do some research and find a rheumatologist who is psa informed and make an appointment there.

You deserve to be seen, validated, and treated well.

How are you managing at the moment?

    1. Hi , thank you so much for reaching out here. It sounds like you're aware already that the information you've been given is incorrect. Unfortunately, as you've discovered, some doctors don't seem to know enough about psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. I'm hoping that the following information will be helpful for you. The first article looks at how PsA can affect the eyes: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/clinical/eye-symptoms and we also have an article on how PsA can affect the spine: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/psa-symptoms/spine Please feel free to take these with you as backup when you talk with your doctors.

Usually, one would expect a rheumatologist to be more knowledgeable about psoriatic arthritis compared to other doctors, so please don't lose hope for finding a doctor that understands and can give you the care you deserve. I wanted to share the National Psoriasis Foundation's directory of physicians with you: https://www.psoriasis.org/health-care-provider-directory/ This can be searched and filtered by location. My understanding is that the doctors featured in this directory are experienced in diagnosing and treating psoriatic disease, so it may be that not every doctor in your area appears in the search results. I hope this is of some help.

Please feel welcome to reach out here anytime you have questions or just need to vent. We're here for you on this journey! Warm wishes, -Catherine, Community Moderator
