New to PsA

Hi - I've had a guttate psoriasis diagnosis for about 8 years. I have been mostly clear for a while, but when I have a flare, it's generally controlled with uvb treatment and most recently, Enstilar. For the past year I've been having pain in my hips. I run a lot so chalked it up to that for a while, but now it's thumb joint, wrists, neck, and most recently this past weekend, a very painful flare in my big toe. I have an appt with my Derm on Monday. I'm pretty sure PsA will be the diagnosis. I'm seriously having some trouble with this. I run and exercise a lot, but this week it has been painful to do so - exercise helps manage depression for me, so I'm panicking that this is going to be very life changing. I have modified my diet to eat anti-inflammatory foods. I've cut out gluten, dairy, alcohol and nightshades. I really, really do not want to take medication if I can avoid it. The side-effects scare the poo out of me. Anyone had success with diet modification and no medication?

  1. Hi ! So glad that you found us.

It sounds like you are having a really rough time with the pain at the moment 🙁 I hope that your appointment goes as well as possible tomorrow. Will you let us know how it goes?

I know that we do have community members who use diet (and/or other alternative methods) to manage their symptoms. Whilst you wait for their input, I thought that this hub page on managing symptoms naturally may be of interest: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/managing-symptoms-naturally/

Best wishes for tomorrow! We're here to support you whatever the outcome. Gentle hugs <3
