Neck clicking and grinding

I have over the last few weeks noticed pains in the base of skull and neck have worsened. Whenever I move my neck in certain ways you can hear clicking and also a large clunk when moving my head forward. I have straightening of lordosis, ddd in cervical and bulging disc but this is new and painful most of the time like a dull toothache.

Anyone else had similar, what was it and how was it fixed.

  1. Hi , that sounds very uncomfortable and painful. I'm sorry you have to deal with this on top of everything else you have going on.   2. Thanks I have a cervical X-ray which talks about loss of lordosis and an MRI showing bulges worse at C6-7 it’s just that the clicking and grinding has become constant.

    1. I dont have exact same condition but my neck and shoulders tighten up really bad and hear some clicking sometimes also. Did go to physical therapy to help with range of motion. Helped to a degree but pain tends to come back periodically.
      What has helped as maintenance/prevention is getting proper pillow for support, acupuncture/acupressure and float therapy (also called sensory deprivation tanks). I’d recommend trying the latter if it’s an option for you, a couple of times at least because first session is getting used to it (just tried it myself recently at a studio in my area). There’s a lot of relief from weight and it felt like my body was helping itself align/stretch naturally (so without external pressure like massage). I believe some athletes also use it for recovery/injury prevention.

        I have several types of shaped
        Memory foam pillows and they are really useful as well.


        I have had a tube of Ibrugel in my hand most of the week and alongside the opiodes etc this has helped.

        1. not sure if by hydro you meant the same thing as float therapy, but the one i mentioned is specifically where you float in a tank with salt-dense water (epsom salt) that allows you to float effortlessly. Aside from the weightlessness, the idea that the tank cuts out external stimuli like light and sound gives your system a break (some people use it to meditate).
