Do you live with multiple health conditions? Do they cause the other to flare?

Hi! I am writing on behalf of another community member, who asks:

"I would like to ask how people many if they have other chronic illnesses and do they find they are constantly unwell as one causes the other to flare.

Thank you 😊"

Do you live with multiple chronic health conditions? Do you find that they cause your other conditions to flare? Please share your experiences with us!

  1. Hi, yes! And I’ve been wondering the same about others!
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and PA 6 years ago. I struggle to work out which disorder is causing the pain which also makes it hard to treat.
    You are not alone xo

    1. Absolutely yes. I have been diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis, Sjogren's Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and Fibromyalgia. Inflammation, pain, inflammation, and more pain. It is a hell of a cocktail. One that takes a lot of time to manage (and you won't find anyone ordering it at a bar any time soon either!! 😀.

  2. Hi! Just wanted to say that another person messaged us privately on Instagram to say "Same here🧡" so please know you're not alone in your experiences. Warmly, Minel (Team Member)

    1. Yes I have psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, asthma, clotting disorder, fibromyalgia, awaiting test results for cluster headaches and also long covid. I feel like most of the time each set of another ie have flare of my Pa and it sets my asthma off into being uncontrolled which then sets off my psoriasis due to extra steroids needed

      1. It sounds like you've been through a lot, . I can only imagine what all of this must be like for you, my heart goes out to you💗 If you don't mind me asking, what do you use to manage all of these conditions? - Abigail, Team Member

    2. Yes, and when all of them are put together it should have been obvious decades ago that I was autoimmune and had PsA.

I have or had postpartum thyroiditis, fibromyalgia, T2 diabetes, PCOS, metabolic syndrome, mild psoriasis, Sjogren's, endometriosis, corneal dystrophy, osteoarthritis, DDD, adjacent disk disease.

My diabetes has always been well controlled since my diagnosis 11 years ago and doesn't play a role in any flare activity. My back issues though, when my back is bad both the PsA and Sjogren's flare. But it's hard to tell if my back stuff is acting up because of my axial PsA or my osteoarthritis. And if my fibromyalgia is especially bad I know a flare is coming.

      1. Oh wow, . I'm so sorry that you have to go through so much, my heart goes out to you💗 Please always remember that the PsA Community is here for you and cares about you! Never hesitate to reach out! If you don't mind me asking, how have you been managing lately? - Abigail, Team Member

      2. awww. Thanks. I'm well enough. Every day is a new opportunity to enjoy my mobility and to be thankful that all these years of constant struggle have made me one tough chick!

I will never be pain free but it could be so much worse. I accepted the fact that life was going to always be physically difficult for me a long time ago. I'm at a good place. Thanks for asking! 🤗
