Managing pain

I take a lot of over-the-counter medicines for pain. Seems like they help some. How do any of you manage pain?me after diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis

  1. Hi is the pain coming from your joints? That picture you posted is the psoriasis. We do have a psoriasis website as well. You can find it here: www.plaquepsoriasis.com. It is free to join as well. Are you seeing a rheumatologist? If not, you might need to look into being referred to one. Vickie, Team Member

    1. pain is in the joints I see a rheumatologist about once a year they can not do more for me. thanks for your reply

      1. What are they doing for you currently? What have they tried up until now?

    2. Well they tried injections embrel and such does not work my legs and elbows have no cartilage. I have to put on bio freeze for pain and wear braces to keep my hands from curling up. They have done all they can. Right now I just enduring the weather change and afterward, the pain eases up. I'm hoping one day they will have an Epi pen in place of injections. it is less painful.!

      1. There are many currently available medications for treating psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis. Some meds are pills, some are infusions, and some are injections (even auto injectors like an epi-pen). It sounds like you've been on Embrel, a TNF blocker, and have been getting cortisone injections (does that sound right?) into your painful joints. But otherwise, have you been on any other medications, like Methotrexate, Otezla, or Xeljanz? Do any of those sound familiar? Have your doctors diagnosed you with psoriatic arthritis? And have they directed you to follow up with a rhuematologist?

      1. oh ouch! That looks incredibly painful. I know you shared a lot about what you do for pain management and relief in your other comment, but is there anything that helps relieve some of the irritation on your skin here as well? One of our advocates on our psoriasis site wrote an article with some of her favorite itch relief, https://plaquepsoriasis.com/living/quick-tips-psoriasis-itch-relief. Of course, I don't know whether or not your skin itches, or if that is psoriasis or not, but I thought you might be interested in the article. Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
