Is It Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) or Psoriatic Arthritis (PsO)

First off, I had never heard of Polymyalgia Rheumatica. I went to a new rheumatologist because my hands hurt so bad. He thought I had PMR. I have had psoriatic disease for decades and not one doctor ever brought this up.

From what I understand, PMR affects the same parts of the body as PsA. It just doesn't cause joint swelling.

Has anyone ever gotten a new diagnosis for a disease that they have had for years? We would like to hear from you. Diane (Team Member)

  1. From what I understand, PMR effects the large joints; neck, shoulders, arms, hips. Treatment options are usually steroids and/or MTX. I would be cautious about accepting such a diagnosis after having had such obvious Psoriatic Disease for so long. Might be a good idea to keep looking for a new rheumatologist. At the very least, challenge this one on why they believe your disease to be PMR rather than PsA.

    1. Hello , yes, I am on top of this. I think because I challenge my doctor. He just wanted to bring up this big word. I'm not sure that's why he did it or not.

I ask a lot of questions on every visit and I refuse to be rushed. It is my neck and shoulders that are acting up. Maybe that's why he said this. I don't know, but I will get a 2nd opinion. Thanks for the information.
