Help with back pain?

My spondyloarthropathy has caused mechanical degeneration of my discs. With the combination I’m finding it very hard to bend, sit just about anywhere for very long due to inflammation causing sciatica, stand for long (again, I think it’s the sciatica), walk any distance, or do much of anything when flaring due to pain. The other thing is since a lot of it is mechanical at this pint, it’s like I’m always flaring in my back. I’ve tried yoga for back pain, I’ve tried PT, I’m on biologics and MTX. I walk with either a cane or a rollator and walker depending on pain and energy levels. All this to say, what do I do?!

For the record I have some comorbidities, diagnosed fibro and in the process of an ME/CFS diagnosis.

  1. I do not have experience with this, , but I wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you and hoping you find relief. Has your doctor ever suggested surgery on your spine as an option? I am sure that would be a last resort. I hope you get some helpful responses from the community. Sending lots of positive vibes your way. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. thank you so much Lori! My rheumy wa talking about a spine specialist before she retired but it didn’t go anywhere. I establish with a new one in March.

    2. I hope you get a referral this time around. Thinking of you! - Lori (Team Member)

  2. @LooksByLissie do you ever try wearing a back brace? I deal with back pain all the time. I live with a heating pad close by as it seems to help. There are times when a back brace helps me so I was just wondering if you have tried it? Back pain is so debilitating because you cannot move your body in any direction without your back being involved. I hope you get that referral to a spine specialist soon. Vickie W., Team Member

    1. I will for sure!! Honestly hearing that wearing one is even a valid option has helped a lot.

    2. @LooksByLissie please feel free to direct message me if you have any questions or just want to chat. Always happy to be of support. Vickie W., Team Member

  3. I also have back issues caused by degenerative disc disease and inflammation but you sound like you are really suffering. I use a back brace and heat bags when it's bad and stretch when it's good. I really feel for you. I know it's hard to stay strong when your body is against you but know there are people here that care and will listen without judgement.

    1. BTW magnesium supplements help sciatica
