I've got pretty bad deterioration of some of the cervical facet joints, but I've managed to hold off on injections so far. My experience with cortisone injections, and I've had lots of them, is that they begin to be less effective over time the more often you get them. I used to have cortisone injections into my AC joints years ago following multiple injuries lifting weights. Eventually, injections that gave me several months of relief would only give me a few weeks, then a few days of relief from pain. My last injection lasted about as long as it took me to get from the doctor's office to my car. So doctors stopped prescribing the injections, and told me to just stop lifting.
