Has anyone found a knee brace that is helpful for your PsA?

I just started looking into these the past few months. My healthcare team thinks that I need to get one. Do you have any special ones that you have invested in?

We would like to hear from you. Diane (Team Member)

  1. As a 57 year old athlete, specifically a long distance runner, I can say that any device used to stabilize the knee that isn't special made for you likely is going to be of limited value in providing any real measure of joint stability and/or pain relief. The standard Ace brand "brace", or any of the sleeves, provide compression, which in turn can provide some mild stability and some pain relief through restriction of motion (if that's what causes the pain). However, long term, physical therapy, and a commitment to continued mobility and quality exercise is the only solution. Even following knee replacement surgery, physical therapy is commenced almost immediately following the procedure. If you are having pain placing weight on the knee, or upon flexion or extension, despite all else, a visit to an orthotist/prosthetist, or knee replacement, may be in order. But the vast majority of one size fits all (or most) devices are useful only to remind you that you have a painful knee.

    1. Hello , I honestly don't think I need a knee brace. My doctor suggested this. My knees do hurt, but not to the point that I need help. My shoulders and hands hurt way more than my hands. You have shared some great information that is very helpful to everyone. Thanks for all the knowledge that you share with us. I hope you are having a good day. Diane (Team Member)

      1. You could try some diclofenac gel. It is a NSAID like ibuprofen, though, so use according to instructions.
