Random - Does anyone else get ear cartilage pain?

What a weird thing to experience. I never had it until my disease began flaring again earlier this year. I've been on a journey to get it better under control. But my ears hurt when I sleep on them and I can't imagine it is something else, given it crops up when the rest of me flares too. I also plan to ask my doctor at my next appointment, of course.

  1. Hi ,

Yes, I get this too! It is so painful. I have noticed that the skin in the area turns red and feels hot too; have you experienced that?

I have not had a chance to ask my rheumatologist about whether it could be related to my PsA yet (I was supposed to see him tomorrow but my appointment has been moved to the end of July 2021 ). If you talk with your doctor about this before I see mine, would you mind letting me know what they say? I have seen one or two others say that they experience this, so we're not alone!

    1. I also get pain in the outer edges of my ears an it coincides every time with flare ups. Not sure why it’s attacking the edges of my ears but it is very painful to touch.

      1. Hey Ladies,

Glad I’m not alone! My rheumatologist and I met today and I asked about it. Apparently you can get cartilage inflammation. She said as long as it doesn’t hurt all the time during the day, it’s nothing to worry about right now. She is adding methotrexate to my medicine line up since the rest of me isn’t as well controlled as we’d like so maybe that’ll take care of it. If you aren’t treating your arthritis with immunosuppressants, she said you can get an autoimmune disease that attacks cartilage specifically but it’s rare. Definitely mention it to your doctors that you get this too!

        1. , it is nice to know that we're not alone! That information is really helpful, thank you. I will definitely make sure I ask my rheumatologist about it too.

I hope the methotrexate will help you get everything under control. I am taking it (by itself) and it has been really helpful. I'd be curious to hear if it makes a difference to this ear thing for you! Thank you again for checking back in with us about this. I love that we can all share knowledge and experiences here! -Catherine, Community Moderator
