Do You Know What Causes Psoriatic Arthritis In The Shoulder?

I honestly do not. I just know that pain in the shoulders gets bad at times. I understand that our body mistakenly attacks our healthy tissue, but why the shoulders most of the time? Well, this is my case. I take ibuprofen every day to help.

Does your PsA just affect your shoulders? Have you discussed this with your healthcare team? If so, do you take extra medication?

  1. As I understand it systemic PsA can affect any joint at any time. I think shoulders become affected because we use them so much, like knees. And smart phones are hard on shoulders, too! I have a deep tissue massage once a week to keep my shoulders from getting too painful.

    1. Hello , I never even thought about the use of our shoulders. That makes good sense. I tried the deep tissue massage a couple of times. It was so painful that I had to make them stop. It really hurt. Have you tried anything else to help with the shoulders? Thanks for sharing.

      1. I eventually had such bad deterioration in my left shoulder, (I’m left-handed), that I needed a reverse total shoulder replacement. my right shoulder wasn’t as bad and was partially replaced. The damage to both shoulders was due to psoriatic Arthritis, even though I was on a biologic and other prescription medication at the time.
I do hope medication and exercise will help you.

      2. Hello , Thanks for the information. I have a few doctor's appointments coming up, so we shall see what they have to say. So are you doing better with your shoulders now?

    2. Very much so! It was the best decision I made!
Thank you for asking and good luck to you. I wish you nothing but progress in beating this damn thing. In the meantime, it’s nice to know we all have each other’s back, now and always!
