Biologics Side Effects

Hello everyone! I’m new to this community and am excited to read about everyone’s journey with PSA!!
I’m curious if anyone is hypersensitive to Biologics and if you were finally able to find one that worked. I’ve always been sensitive to meds and knew my journey to finding a successful treatment for my PsA was going to be tough due to the side effects. I’ve tried Enbrel and Humira and had horrible side effects and had to discontinue after the first few shots. My rheumatologist is sending me to an allergist to see if I might be allergic to ingredients in the meds. I suspect that won’t be the case but it’s the next logical step. I feel like a juvenile dose with a longer time between shots might be a better decision. I’m looking to see if others had a similar experience. Previous medicine list: Sulfasalazine, Otezla, Humira, Enbrel.

  1. Hi . Welcome to the community! You will find lots of supportive people here and plenty of great resources. You must be awfully frustrated with your situation, though it it sounds like you have a proactive doctor who is willing to work with you to find something that helps. That's wonderful. I believe one of our advocates is allergic to biologics. Hopefully, she will see this post and jump in. I hope you get some responses from others in the community as well and that you eventually find something that brings you relief. Keep us posted if you feel comfortable doing so and please feel free to PM me if you need help navigating the community. Wishing you the best! - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Hi CKS72
I’ve only been on the one biological in the past 8 years and it is Enbrel. It was a life saver for me, although I do think it’s effectiveness may have dropped for me over the past 12 months.
I was on methotrexate and sulfasalazine before starting Enbrel and had awful side effects with both of them and neither were really effective at controlling my PsA.
I just wanted to wish you luck and hope you find a biological that works for you soon. 👍
