Stelara

Has anyone been on Stelara or know anything about it? (I.e. side effects not listed on supplied info, injection issues, other problems)
I did try searching for it and came up with no posts about it. Surely im not the 1st person in our community on it right?!?!?
My 1st injection was swelled for about 24 hrs. But so far no other new issues.
Thanks everyone!

  1. Stelara lasted less than a year. It did nothing for inflammation or skin. I never imagined I would have to switch meds so often. I don't even know whats next. Right now, im only on SSZ, plaquenil, & gabopentin......my left knee cracked so loudly earlier my daughter asked me if I “just broke”. Its not really funny, but I have to keep a sense of humor or Ill go insane.

    1. Let's hope Xeljanz is the magic one for you, . You have been through a lot with the medications. Did you have any side effects with Stelara? I hope you were at least spared those if it wasn't going to do anything for you... I was given a different brand of mtx this month - not sure if I'm imagining it but I'm sure I'm feeling more nauseous than usual, ugh!

Ahhh, how are you getting on at work? I know you were a bit stressed about it last time we spoke. It can't be easy. I'm so glad you are getting some rest when you're not working. My couch is not looking dissimilar to yours lately!! 💗 -Catherine, Community Moderator

    2. I know just how you feel. I have been on Stelara about a year with little relief! I have so many other conditions that it makes it hard to treat me . I have had severe chronic anemia for over 3 years . Because of that I am on and off with meds all the time. All my Doctors are concerned with what treatments I am able to receive, so I end up going without any for my PsA and psoriasis 😔 After my next bloodwork results my Doctor will video conference ( due to covid 19) with me to discuss what treatment we will try next 😔 hang in there, I hope you find a treatment that will help you..... soon 👍

  2. I did not have side effects with stelara other than a little bit of swelling with that first injection.
Hopefully your nausea eases up some. I didnt seem to have that while on mtx, so unfortunately, i dont have any advice when it comes to that.
Im only working 1 or 2 days a week right now. Since I work at a hospital, I am trying to limit my time there. I am by myself in a small office, but the covid-19 risk is still there because the closest restroom is public and shared with our covid testing team. Hopefully things get better soon!
Stay safe! It’s so important to stay healthy right now, I’ll be praying for you and everyone in the arthritis community, as well as everyone else!

    1. I am so glad you didn't have to put up with side effects whilst waiting to see if the Stelara would work, . Keep us updated on how the Xeljanz goes - truly hoping for lasting relief and no side effects for you!! The mtx nausea has gone now thankfully. I'm lucky it only seems to last a day or so and the rest of the week I feel "normal" (whatever that means !).

Ah, I had an inkling that you worked at a hospital because of your long shifts! Limiting your time there at the moment sounds sensible. I so hope this does all get better soon. What a horrible time this is. I think we need all the prayers we can get right now. Make sure you keep safe too! Sending lots of love <3 -Catherine, Community Moderator
