Pets & Health

Did you know that February 20th is Love Your Pet Day?

Did you also know that pets can positively impact your overall health? According to the CDC, Pets can decrease your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, triglyceride levels, and decrease feelings of loneliness.

Do you have a pet? If so, share your pet's story and tell us how he or she helps you cope!

  1. Sorry I am replying 4 months after the fact, but I've just found you. I have 2 cats. Our male, Willie, has never been a "snuggle cat" until I had my first tendon surgery. Now, it's as if he is always trying to comfort me. Enough said

    1. Pets, oh yes we have pets! We are down to 5 dogs, 1 cat and a bird! Not sure about lowering my blood pressure...my partner let’s them do whatever, Molly our oldest will be 16 in June, she is a Westin, her health is failing, deaf, dementia, incontenant, arthritis...but her nose works just fine!!! MacGregor or MAC for short is 14 and a Yorkie. He only has eyes for Molly! JuBee is the son of Mac and Molly, we call him a Workie. JuBee is 12 and just not a nice dog. He looks just like Toto, but a snarling, biting nasty dog! Then there is Honey a rescue, we think she is around 10 not sure. She is mini shelty and Australian Shepherd mix. She herds the rest of the dogs, is really sweet but very skittish. When people come over and JuBee goes for the ankles Honey cuts him off at the toes! Our fifth dog Izzy is also a rescue, he is a poodle bichon mix. Best guess he is around 11. He should be named Wizzy...he was severely abused and neglected, and I am pretty sure he has PTSD. Last summer we babysat him for a neighbor who had adopted him, he was infested with fleas. I shaved him and washed and picked EVERY flea off him! He slept for three solid hours on my lap...he hasn’t left my side since. Petey is our cat he is about 8. Up until last summer we had two cats, Rita was 16 when she passed. Petey has been lonely...and more demanding of attention. He is a sweet gacky boy. And last but far from least is Paco! He is a Sun Conure parrot who is also around 8. Tiny little thing...huge personality! He hides under paper and yells till we say “where’s Paco?” Then “peek a boo” to which he responds “heek a hoo!” Then struts out and up his cage! He hears our car pull up before the dogs...he starts barking then the dogs...it’s bedlam! But at bedtime all the dogs sleep with us, and Paco is wheeled in when it’s time for sleep we cover his cage tell him good night and love you...blow him kisses and he blows them back!
Sorry this is so long, but we have a zoo!
