New to Group - Not New to Psoriatic Arthritis or Psoriasis

Hi everyone!

I was diagnosed with Psoriasis at the age of 5 and PsA in my teens. So to say I'm a long-term warrior is correct. I have used Methotrexate and Remicade to help with the PsA but mostly used topicals to help with the Psoriasis. Yesterday I started Humira for both conditions.

Unpredictability of psoriatic arthritis

Living with these conditions for so long (50+years) has made me acutely aware of how they affected my life. There are days that I struggle and can't meet the bare minimum, and then there are those days when I feel so great that I overdo it and pay for it the next day. It's a nonstop roller coaster and I never know what kind of day I'll have until I wake up in the morning.

Support for others living with PsA

I want to try and be a resource for others who are not as far along in their journey as I am and will try to respond to messages when I can.

Hi poetrymuse, Oh my goodness you were very young when you were diagnosed, I was 13-14 when I was diagnosed so I have had it for 26 years. I hate reading about people who aren’t supported or who are in so much pain, even though I am myself. I wish I knew a magic trick to make it all go away. I used to methotrexate as well as Humira but they didn’t work for me. I have had other treatments over the years but at the minute the combination of Lefluomide and Simponi (golimomamb) are working for me. Like you I would like to try and help people, even if it’s just a ear to listen, just so they know they are not on their own and there are people who understand. Kath78

 Thank you Lori, I think it’s helpful to have someone who truly understands to talk to. Family and friends try to understand but they don’t fully grasp how it can effect everything you do. Thank you again

Hi Poetrymuse, I was just diagnosed recently. I am in my 30's. I began to experience pain in my childhood. I believe an injury along with genetics contribute to this disease. It is sad to see others suffer for a long time as well. I want to also thank you. It makes me feel not alone. I hope that you have nothing, but positive results from Humira. Thanks, RS

Hi everyone. I thought I would update my experience with Humira. After four doses over eight weeks, I found intermittent relief. It’s not perfect, the Humira drops off four days before the next dose but for seven of the fourteen days life is okay. It takes two days before the new dose kicks in. My rheumatologist is wanting to add methotrexate injected to extend the life span of the Humira. It is being overwhelmed by the amount of inflammation I have. The greatest plus I’ve seen with Humira is that much of my tendon pain is lessened. I hope you all are doing well and thanks for the kind words. Gentle hugs to you all.

 That is great to hear <inline-mention user-id="3277935" username="poetrymuse"/> . It is common for something like methotrexate to be added to another biologic. Are you going to add it? If so please come back and let us know how that is doing as well. Vickie W., Community Moderator
