Beach scene with people swimming and walking on the sand

Working Out While On Vacation At The Beach

It’s that time of year again; family trips, beaches, pools, and water-parks. This is the time of year we all get lazy and just want to relax and take in the surroundings around us. Who has time to think about going to the gym or working out? I know I just want to sit in the water and just take in the coolness.

Maintaining workout routines even while on vacation

Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you have to skip working out. Working out at the beach or on the beach can allow you to try new or different workout routines while also having some beautiful scenery to look at. Another perk of beach workouts is you can do a beach workout; then head into the ocean to cool off post-workout and enjoy the soothing ocean.

Taking advantage of what the beach has to offer for workouts

Sand has a weird surface. You know when you walk in it how it feels, but you are also working those core muscles to help maintain your balance. It’s also easier on your joints.

Do we have to give up staying healthy while we are at the beach? I think not. One of the things you always see at the beach is people walking and enjoying the sites. Just do it.

Examples of beach workouts

Here are some other things to do while staying in shape while at the beach.

  • Doing push-ups in the sand. I could only do 2, but I did do better in the hotel room.
  • Just walking in the sand does wonders.
  • Jogging on the beach – This burns more energy since the sand creates resistance and forces your body to expend more energy. This is harder than running on a firm surface.
  • Swimming – It’s good for the body and uses all your muscles to build and tone your muscles.
  • Skipping in the sand – This adds resistance and strengths your glutes.
  • Throw a Frisbee – If you’re in pain I wouldn’t suggest this, but at least your standing up which uses energy and burns calories.
  • Sand lunges – step forward and pushed in the sand. The sand will incline, forcing you to push harder to use more muscles.

Taking your workout in the water

You’re at the beach, so go swimming.  This has always been the best workout for my body. It forces you to use every muscle in your body. Your able to burn more calories and tone that body. Drink plenty of water before and after each workout to stay hydrated on the beach. The sun is good for us, but also robs our body of water. If you’re not a water drinker, at least try and drink beverages low in sugar.  Remember you are going to be dealing with more humidity than usual and not be in an air-conditioned environment so be safe.  Stay away from alcohol it tends to dehydrate you.

Benefits of beach workouts

If you’re just taking a jog on the beach or just want to play Frisbee, just remember that running on the sand has its rewards. This is a great way to get some exercise and enjoy a relaxing setting. Your mental health is just as good as your physical health, so why not take care of both things at once. You can surely find your inner peace at the beach this summer. Enjoy!!
