Partial tear in tendon

I have had PsA for around 15 years but due to different issues have only been seeing a Rheumatologist regularly for the past 4 years..I was having extra issues with my right elbow and my doctor suggested an MRI which showed a partial tendon tear which he said takes 9-12 months to heal! I usually go to the gym 3 days a week but now I can't do anything with that arm....I have issues with my lower body and back..pretty much every where..I have DDD in my back...a knee and hip replacement and a partially fused left knee..psoriasis is really bad at this time..I'm on Humira and just was put back on Methotrexate...so no specific questions today..new to group and just a little history...

  1. Hi , welcome to the community!

Thank you for sharing your journey with us. You are dealing with such a lot. That tear sounds awful. I have the tendon inflammation with PsA and that's bad enough - I can't imagine an actual tear in one of the tendons. What a pain that it takes so long to heal. Will you have to stop going to the gym or can you adjust your current workout routines to exclude that arm?

I hope the Humira and methotrexate will make a difference to your symptoms. I take methotrexate too and it does help with the pain. Hope the weekend was kind to you! -Catherine, Community Moderator

      1. Hi ~ so sorry for your pain. I recently was dx'ed with 6 massive complete tendon tears - 3 each for the L and R rotator cuffs. Shocked is an understatement. No known injuries, but I have Hypermobility Syndrome in addition to PsA. I have lots of tendon pain and enthetetis w/ PsA - Achilles, top of foot, ribs, etc - more than joint damage. I too wonder if others with PsA have random tendon tears. Doing physical therapy now. This is very painful and irreparable in my case. Wishing you well ~

        1. My heart goes out to you, . That sounds awfully painful. Is physical therapy helping? Gentle hugs! - Lori (Team Member)

      2. The combination of Humira and mtx has worked pretty well for me, I hope it has the same efffect on your body! I am amazed how similar your issues are to mine, truly, I have not had the knee replaced, and with some drastic weight loss this last year, it appears I will be able to carry on with Synvisc injections for quite a while in the knee. Just had left hip replaced at the end of May though, back and neck are a hot mess, having MRI on left elbow next week and I really think it is going to show enthesitis as I don't feel a lot of grinding or the bone on bone stuff in there but I did break the humorous there several years back. I have also had a lot of shoulder issues, both from previous injuries and disease driven and just had my 5th shoulder surgery a couple of weeks ago. I do have a few issues you didn't mention, and you have a few I don't, but the gist is I really similar, so I think I can honestly say, I feel for ya! 😀
