Simponi Aria infusion

Has anyone had side effects while on Simponi Aria Infusions? High blood pressure, occasional burning eyes?

  1. Hi I haven't been on Simponi but I am sure some of our community members will shed some light on it for you. High blood pressure and eye problems can occur with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Did you have any of those issues before starting Simponi? Vickie W., Team Member

    1. Hi Vicky W: yes I did have the symptoms before taking Simponi but it has gotten worse after I start it, specially the discomfort around my left side of my chest and the occasional feeling of burning in my eyes has become more frequent, I have an appointment with my rheumatologist and I'm planning to discuss it with him, it's my second infusion and my third is at the end of this month, I know it's too soon to feel any improvement but at this point I don't feel getting any better,I guess I need to be more patient.

    2. it's hard to be patient when you are in pain and need something to work. Give yourself grace. You have the right to feel how you feel. Vickie W., Team Member

  2. , I don't think I'll provide much insight. I had my first Simponi Aria infusion last Thursday.
My eyes are often a source of discomfort due to allergy season and chronic Uveitis and dry eye issues. I can't say they're worse with Simponi.
I noted that it can increase B/P so I'll be monitoring that. I have no B/P issues going into this new (new for me) medication.
There's another gal here, Faith, who is just starting Simponi Aria. You might be able to locate those posts. It sounds like its going well for her so far. I'll let you know if something pops up for me.
    Best of luck!

    1. I started Simponi Aria infusions in July of this year. I’m experience the reverse effects, I have a lower BP than normal.

I’ve been struggling through chronic stomach issues the last few months and GI doctor is trying to figure out if it’s related/unrelated to my treatment. I’ve also noticed some hair loss- but the benefits still seem to outweigh these. Overall, Simponi has drastically improved my joint pain and fatigue from what I can tell. Similar to , I’m still in the early stages of treatment. I go again on Monday for my next infusion so I’ll keep you all posted if I notice any other side effects.

Best of luck to you all! Keep fighting the good fight!

      1. , thanks for your post. It helps to talk about these medications. In the last few days I have become more hopeful that Simponi Aria will help with pain. September was mighty rough.
Oh man, hair loss...sigh. I already have that going on with methotrexate. Hair or pain? Sometimes the choices stink LOL
I hope you get some answers to your GI issues and soon. And I hope its not Simponi related. I am a big baby when it comes to nausea. So far while on Simponi Aria I am only a little nauseous during the infusion.
Best of luck and thanks again!

      2. you are so correct, sometimes the choices do really suck. And I do hope that you do not experience much hair loss and that you rather see a massive improvement in your symptoms. Do keep us updated if you would like to, we would love to hear from you again. -Clair Psoriatic-Arthritis.com team member

    2. So far I'm still on Simponi Aria with a shot of methylprednisolone at the time of infusion but my blood pressure has gone slightly out of control, at this point I'm not sure if it's related to the medication or just another symptom, I have seen a cardiologist and has given me some medication for it but like some other medications I've been on the first did't work and the second I'm trying with an additional medication, will see how it does, with chronic fatigue, insomnia and with my heart pumping like I just went for a jog trying to fall asleep hasn't been easy, since I got diagnosed all I can do is one hour naps through the night but this new symptom is making it even harder.

      1. Sleeping issues can be so hard to deal with. on a regular basis. I would be interested in hearing what the difference is between your blood pressure. If you would feel comfortable to share that with us. I do hope that the Simpomi starts to show up for you and brings some relief to your symptoms. -Clair Psoriatic-Arthritis.com team member

      2. Before I started with Simponi my blood pressure was just elevated but now the new normal is hypertension stage 1 and 2, I was given Carvedilol at the beginning but it didn't do a thing now I'm on Amlodipine Besylate but large dose is too hard on my body so I had to lower to half and going to add Metoprolol in hopes that it will lower my blood pressure will see how it does.
