Psoriatic arthritis and eyes

Has anyone else with PsA had problems with their eyes? Since having it I've had a retinal vein bleed in my right eye. And then this week a retinal tear in the other which required laser surgery.

  1. Hello , I am so sorry you are going through this. I have problems with my eyes but my doctor said my mind is old age. Here is a great article with some useful information written by one of our Patient Leaders. (Vickie Wilkerson) https://plaquepsoriasis.com/living/uveitis-eye-complications

I hope more people will come along who can give you more insight into this. Let us know how things turn out. How long have you had PsA? We would like to hear from you. Diane (Team Member)

    1. Hi , I'm so glad you reached out. Unfortunately, PsA can impact the eyes, and I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with this also. I know that you aren't alone, so hopefully some of our community members with personal experience can share with you here. In the meantime, (and in addition to the article that Diane shared above,) I also wanted to share with you two more articles about eye inflammation and PsA. This article has some information on how PsA can impact the eyes, https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/clinical/eye-symptoms. And this one is an editorial article about PsA and Uveitis, https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/psa-symptoms/eyes-red-pain-vision.

How are you doing post laser surgery for the torn retina? Has the doctor you're seeing for your PsA ever mentioned anything about PsA impacting the eyes? Or did your eye doctor at all? Please know that this community is here for you! Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

      1. Hi I have had issues with my eyes for quite some time now when it comes to my psa. The eye doctor says the PsA is putting pressure on the inside of my eyes which has caused me to have very dry eyes as well as uveitis. I have not experienced what you have but it is a real possibility that the PsA could be contributing to it. So sorry to hear about the bleed and the tear. I am sure that has been frightening. When you go back for a checkup you always have the right to ask do they think if PsA could have caused it. Please let us know how you are doing. Vickie W., Team Member
