Possible Trigger Thumb

Has anyone experienced intense pain and a popping sound/feeling when bending your thumb? I also have extreme tenderness and pain in the fleshy place below the thumb. Anyone have suggestions on how to reduce the pain and heal it?

  1. Hi . Pain in the thumb joints is not uncommon for people with PsA, so I can promise you that you are not alone. Have you talked with your doctor about this? I hope you get some responses from the community. While you wait, I thought you might be interested in this article: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/living/overcome-chronic-pain. 1. Hi @Auggie75. I have experienced the pain and popping sound in other fingers. It definitely hurt. Mine stopped popping in time. We are not allowed to offer medical advice. @Lori.Foster made the proper suggestion when she asked if you have talked to your doctor about it. If you would like you are welcome to go to our Facebook page as well and ask the question there.

      1. Thank you and for your help. I go to the Doctor on the 23rd and plan to talk to him about it then. Right now I'm keeping a splint on it and didn't know if anyone had home remedies that helped. I totally understand not giving medical advice. Thank you both!

        1. Your welcome @Auggie75. Here's hoping the doctor can do something to help you. Please come back and update us if you would like to. Vickie W., Team Member

      2. My thumb started popping several weeks ago, now it is bending the wrong way on the joint. I spoke to my doctor about it and in addition to changing my biological he sent me to occupational therapy. I had my evaluation yesterday and start therapy on Friday. They took measurements and function test and found both hands to be well below average but the thumb that is hurting measured to only 5 lbs of strength. She did recommend a contrast bath. Immersion in hot water for 4 minutes then cold water for 1 minute repeat 2 times and end with 5 mins of hot water.

        1. Wow @EMS329 that sounds so painful. I hope that the therapy really works out for you. Please come back and update us as to the progress if you would like to. Vickie W., Team Member
