Hereditary thoughts

My 21 year old daughter would seem somewhat a Hypochondriac; I thought it myself but agreed being diagnosed with PsA and seeing all the issues I have that would seem unrelated, I now wonder if she suffers from a similar issue. My mom has a lot of my problems and do did hers but they were never diagnosed with PsA, but had other autoimmune disorders.
Does anyone have a younger child/teen that seems to be going down the same path?

  1. I have a son who was recently diagnosed with PsA at the age of 35.

    1. , I have 2 grown sons and neither one of them got my psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis. Has your daughter been seen by a rheumatologist yet? We would like to hear more from you. Diane (Team Member)

      1. Hi , I'm so glad that you reached out. I don't personally have experience with this, but I wanted to let you know that it certainly is possible, and does happen. While not child every diagnosed with PsA will have a parent who also has PsA (or psoriasis), it certainly does happen. In fact, as described in our article about causes of PsA, https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/psa-basics/cause-triggers "about 40 percent of people with PsA have at least one close relative who lives with either psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis." Has your daughter seen a doctor for her various symptoms? I hope do hope that she can get some answers, and, of course, please don't hesitate to reach out here anytime. Hopefully more of our community members with children can chime in here and also share their experiences on whether or not their children found themselves also diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. Wishing you a gentle evening. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
