Have any of you dealt with tooth resorption since diagnosis?

I was recently diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis in June 2022, and have been on a biologic along with dmards. My dentist told me yesterday that I have tooth resorption and will need 2 teeth remove and implants. This has me reeling and a nervous wreck. Wondering if the psa has anything to do with it.

  1. Hi @EAC66, I am so glad you found our community and that you have reached out. Getting a new diagnosis and all of the symptoms and confusion that comes with it, is very overwhelming. While I do hope you hear back from our community members with their personal experiences with this, I wanted to let you know that you can develop dental issues from PSA. I am sending over a couple articles that I hope can help you. We are here for you! You are not alone, please reach out whenever you need. Jill, team member

    1. Hi @EAC66. That is an interesting question. My friend who has PsA and pso just had 2 teeth pulled yesterday after they got infected. It makes me wonder now if her PsA had something to do with it also. I will try to get more information from her and if determining her PsA played a part in it I will get back with you. 1. Thank you! I appreciate the feedback and any info from someone else's experience.

    2. Numerous studies have been done that show a link between PsA and periodontal disease, but the causal relationship seems to be, as yet, poorly understood. One thing to bear in mind when considering implants, though, is the impact upon your body's ability to fight infection while on DMARDS/bDMARDS. I personally opted for partials, and then full set of dentures once it came to that. Periodontist didn't recommend implants given my situation with biologics, and I still had a good bone bridge for the dentures to anchor onto.

      1. ,Hi . I hadn't considered the infection potential with implants. That's a very good point, especially since it is a yearlong process. Thanks for chiming in. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

      2. Thank you for that insight! I hadn't even thought of the potential risks. Definitely will contact my rheumatologist also. I am a 56 year old and still want to look my best. This is all very distressing.
