Has Anyone Experience Tongue Swelling And Pain From PsA?

This is the first time I have had this symptom in 6 decades. My doctor thinks it's a side effect of a medication. She just doesn't know which one. I take a lot.

At the moment I am being treated like a guinea pig. It's trial and error with my medications.

Has anyone ever experienced tongue swelling? If so, how did your healthcare team treat this symptom?

We would love to hear from you.

  1. When I start on methotrexate, after the first month of treatment, I developed deep “cracks” in my tongue that were very painful. My tongue was swollen as well and very sensitive to salt and/or spicy foods. It turns out these symptoms are a side effect to the methotrexate! I told my rheumatologist about the problems with my tongue and she put me on 3 mg of Folic Acid a day which took care of the problem.
Could this be what you’re suffering from?

    1. Hello , I have an appointment with my doctor next month. I take 6 - 2.5 mg of Methtraxate and 1 mg of folic acid now but will talk to my doctor about increasing it. Thanks for the information. Never a dull moment.

  2. Isn’t that the truth!
FYI: I take 10 a 2.5mg of methotrexate a week. I started out with 4mg of Folic Acid. Now that my tongue is cleared up and has been for a year, doc reduced the Folic Acid to 3mg a day and everything has been good.
Good luck to you and my peace and happiness follow you.
