Hard time

I am having a hard time right now. I’m on my second year of Humira and it is not working the way it did. I just found out that that sometimes happens with Humera. They’re saying now I should go to a different drug, maybe Embril? I have psoriatic arthritis and ortho arthritis. Between the two I can barely put any weight on my right foot . Has anybody else in a situation like this? I am trying the steroid shots, but so far nothing has happened. Does anybody know what the next step is? Can’t put weight on my foot? I am a master gardener and they spend a lot of time in the garden and have a lot of commitments in that area. I have never been completely stationary like this before. It’s really depressing. each time the psa has gotten worse, I adapted. I don’t know this time.

  1. Hi . Unfortunately, your situation is not uncommon. Sometimes, biologics lose effectiveness for no known reason and you have to try something else. My brother has had great success with Enbrel. I hope you do as well. Have you ever considered seeing an orthopedic doctor for your foot? Sometimes, an orthopedic doctor can bring a new perspective to PsA damage. You might even find that some of your pain is caused by something unrelated and treatable. That might explain why steroid shots are not helping. It can take some time to feel better when you switch medications and that might impact your gardening. If it does, I hope you don't give up on it. Maybe some of your gardener friends can pitch in and help until you are literally on your feet again. Please know we are here for you whenever you need us. Gentle hugs. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Has your doc mentioned switching to every 7 days instead of every 14 days? My Humira worked great and suddenly my fatigue was getting really bad and my pain was getting bad again and I felt like my Humira wasn't lasting long enough. My cousin was also switched to every 7 days because her inflammation markers weren't coming down enough and Humira wasn't working well for her.

I decided to give it a try at every 7 days because as I had heard, and my rheumatologist confirmed, sometimes when you stop Humira and try to go back, it never works well again. I didn't want to switch from Humira until I knew for sure it wasn't going to continue working. I didn't want to tqkr the chance of stopping it and nothing else working as well and then Humira wouldn't work anymore. It might be worth discussing with your doc.

I do know the pre-authorization to switch to weekly had to be sent in as dealing with my psoriasis because the FDA has not approved Humira every 7 days for PsA, but evidently it has for psoriasis and other conditions.
