Fingerprint recognition

Hi! I slways seem to have trouble using my fingerprint to log in to my phone, despite having a new model phone. I've been wondering recently if this could be linked to my psoriasis, so thought I'd ask if anyone else has the same problem.
Thanks!

  1. Hi , thanks for reaching out here. Do you have psoriasis on your fingertips? I don't think I've experienced this, but a friend of mine who has palmoplantar pustulosis has this trouble with the fingerprint recognition. It must be so frustrating! I hope you'll get some more input from the community here. Warmly, -Catherine, Community Moderator

    1. hi, thanks for this. I have really dry flaky skin all over my palms and fingers which is generally the first sign of a flare. I will look at what your friend has and see if that is similar. Thank you!

    2. hi! I have very dry skin on the palms of my hands and my fingers which us usually the first sign of a flare for me. I don't think it is what you friend has as I never experience blistering but the skin is generally very broken so I wonder if the fingerprint can be read. Thank you for your reply.

  2. Hi . It seems you are not alone. I did a quick Google search. Though I didn't find any large, recent studies, I did find older studies and articles about the impact of dry skin on fingerprint recognition. It seems the software that is design to be extra sensitive to moist skin also tends to be the worst at recognizing dry fingerprints. Such an interesting observation. Have you tried redoing your prints to see whether that helps? Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Hi again Lori I've had this phone only about a month and the fingerprint stopped working after about a week! I might see if a different finger works that is less dry! Interesting nonetheless!

    2. I often get dried cracked fingertips during the winter months, but sometimes when my TSH levels fluctuate, my skin does the same. And with PsA, the latter seems to happen not infrequently. So, A., are you currently being treated for hypo/hyper-thyroidism, and B., if so, have you recently had your T4 and TSH levels checked. Aside from that, about the only thing you can do is keep adding a new fingerprint every time your phone begins giving you trouble accepting your current one. And make sure you get the FP recognition with your finger at a lot of different angles.
