Experiencing Psoriasis in the ear canal

Although this is a PsA forum, I was wondering if anyone had experience with caring for psoriasis in the inner ear.

I have had psoriasis for something around 15 years, and PsA for 5. I don’t have severe or plaque psoriasis on my body. I get it in patches on my arms and hands and neck with little discomfort. HOWEVER, I have always had it pretty severe on my scalp.

In the past 4 years it has moved to the inside of my ear. It causes ear infections and swelling if I’m not taking care of it properly. My doctor told me to put organic olive oil or any other body safe oil in my ear. (Of course, sometimes I just need an antibiotic to kick it). I usually put it on a Q-tip and try to lather it in the problem areas. Most recently, I’ve found that Aquafor works very well, even better than the oil.

Do you deal with this? Do you have any suggestions for treatment of this area?

  1. Hi . Have you mentioned this to your doctor? You are not alone. Here is an article from our sister community, PlaquePsoriasis.com, about ear psoriasis that you might find helpful: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/living/ear-symptoms-tips. Hopefully, others will respond here as well. Are you taking medication to slow the progression of your PsA? If so, that should also help keep your skin clear. You might want to talk with your doctor about switching to something that helps with both issues. There are lots of different treatments you can try. I hope this helps. Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)
