Drooling.

Hi everyone.

I've noticed that while I'm alseep, I'm drooling and soaking my pillow. Is this a condition of PsA or should I seek futher medical advice.

  1. Hi thanks for reaching out. I haven't heard of this being a condition of PsA. If ever you have any concerns, I would suggest reaching out to your doctor. I hope you can get some answers. We are so glad you are a part of our community. Jill, Team Member

    1. I don't think i've produced enough saliva in the last 5 years combined to have one good night of drool! Lol! Seriously, I have pretty severe dry mouth issues, so no drool for me, but I wouldn't think drooling is something to lose sleep over, but like said, always a good idea to reach out to your care team.

      1. funny you should ask that I'm constantly thirsty always got a dry mouth except when sleeping like you so much dribbling yet tongue so dry & hard & drink through the night.
I put it down to PSA giving chronic sinusitis, gum & ear infections, I've always got runny or blocked nose so sleep with mouth open snoring my head off but now your question had me wondering if its part of multiple health problems caused by PSA?

        1. Hi there only just seen you saw my reply and saw you were seeking rheumatologist opinion so thought I'd see how you got on?
Born with plaque psoriasis misdiagnosed as cradle cap, as far back as I remember I've dribbled when asleep whether it's due to psoriasis or PSA I'm none the wiser but..
Auto immune diseases can give dry mouth
PSA more importantly causes gum Inflammation & further to periodontal gum disease
Medications can also cause a dry mouth

I've severe gum disease been thirsty all my life due to kidney problems since then learnt to drink alot, when I don't drink atleast 4L daily, headaches start.
There is a link between PSA & severe gum disease an article you can read on here but I've looked all over, nothing I read mentions dribbling whilst asleep 😴 look forward to hearing what your consultant said

      2. I have this same issue, it started with a flare cycle, and this is a symptom that has not left.

        1. I have talked with my doctor on this. He does not know, all my tests and blood work come back as normal. I am switching rheumatologists as my last one would not explain anything to me. He would just make rash decisions and change treatments or remove treatments and not really discuss anything. My doctor thinks it is possible one of the meds I am on to manage the pain at this time.

        2. Hi . I hope the new doctor is more compassionate and is a true partner in your care. You deserve better. Best wishes! - Lori (Team Member)
