Boils or cysts?

This is gross, but has anyone had boils or cysts?

I’ve had three in the last four years. They have all needed antibiotics, they hurt, and it’s gross and embarrassing.

I also get mouth sores, and recently, I've gotten them on my lips! When I first had one on my lip, I thought it was a fever blister, but after several days when the Abreva didn't work, I tried my Triamcinolone 0.1% Dent Paste, and it worked.

So, like everything else I experience with my body, I wonder if it has anything to do with PsA or the meds I take!?!

  1. That sounds more likely due to your medications, but it could all also be completely unrelated to anything. Never heard of such issues related directly to PsA. But, I had folliculitis and a skin fungal infection during the loading dose phase when I started Skyrizi, and boils result from deep infection of the hair follicle.

    1. thanks. I just completed a loading dose of Cosentyx. Makes me wonder…

  2. Hey , lovely to see your name and face pop up 😊 I can definitely relate to wondering if various symptoms are related to PsA! I am sorry to read that you've been struggling with boils and cysts - they can be so painful. We have heard from a couple of people who struggle with boils. I hope they'll stop by to share with you. I have had a few (completely self-diagnosed) boils over the years, and I do wonder if it's related to my immune system being suppressed by methotrexate. I can't remember if I had any before starting on the methotrexate though...

With regards to the mouth sores, some medications have these listed as a side effect. Psoriasis can also cause mouth symptoms - here's an article on oral manifestations of psoriasis that might be of interest: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/clinical/oral-symptoms Mouth sores could also be a sign (or not!) of something else going on. Have you been able to discuss these symptoms with your rheumatologist (or dermatologist)? Warmest wishes, -Catherine, Community Moderator
