Anklyosing Spondylitis

So after suffering from pain and stiffness in my low back and a nasty pain in my left rib cage, I tested positive for the HLA-B27 antigen. Apparently that is a test that helps to diagnose psoriatic arthritis and anklyosing spondylitis. I have already been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, so I guess AS decided to join the party πŸ˜‚πŸ˜Ž

  1. Ugh. I wish you didn't have to deal with that as well, . I think you will find quite a few people in this community who have both and will understand what you are going through. Warmest of wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Hi @T. Woody. Sorry to hear about the AS. Sadly there are comorbidities that come along with psoriatic arthritis. What is the course of treatment now? Is what you are on helpful for AS as well? Vickie W., Team Member

      1. After seeing a dermatologist for years for psoriasis, a recent issue with my thumb (huge join flare up), I got in to see a rheumatologist. She said probably PsA, and I had a feeling too, and my blood test came back confirming it was I, like you tested positive for HLA-B27. Fortunately, no back issues (yet), but my finger joints all act up from time to time and my thumb never fully recovered. Definitely got permanently joint damage from that flare up. Best of luck. Can't wait to read more people's stories. Hang in there.
